Asustek Computer launched Padfone 2, a hybrid smartphone/tablet model, three months ago and nearly one million units have been sold globally, with shipments continuing, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
Padfone features Qualcomm S4 1.5GHz quad-core processor, a 4.7-inch touch screen, a 13-megapixel rear camera, 16-hour battery life, 3G voice communications and a weight of 649g, the sources indicated.
Among PC vendors who have entered the smartphone market, Asustek and Lenovo have performed the best, the sources claimed. Asustek is expected to unveil an upgraded version of Padfone and other smartphone models with large screens at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona during February 25-28, the sources indicated.
In addition, Asustek has launched a Windows 8 10.1-inch tablet, VivoTab Smart ME400, and an Android 4.1 7-inch tablet, MeMO Pad ME172, and will launch a Windows 8 11.6-inch tablet, VivoTab TF810, in February.
