DRAM module and NAND flash device maker Transcend Information plans to recruit a total of 1,000 employees for its soon-to-be-open Taiwan plant, which will be dedicated to producing Transcend's own-brand products, according to company chairman Peter Su. Its manufacturing site in Shanghai, China will concentrate on OEM production.
Transcend is set to complete construction of the new plant in Neihu, Taipei in August. Su said the company expects to run the site at full capacity within six months of volume production, which is slated to kick off in October.
Twenty production lines will be housed at Transcend's new Taiwan plant for a combined monthly capacity of 7.7 million units of DRAM and NAND flash products, Su was quoted as saying in previous reports.
In addition, Su commented that DRAM prices should be between US$2 and US$2.50. If prices approach US$3, such a high level could inhibit growth in demand.
Su believes DRAM prices are unlikely to fall below US$2 in 2010 though the prices may face downward pressure due to supply growth in the third quarter.
