MediaTek is expected to see its revenues surge 50% sequentially to over NT$9 billion (US$302.4 million) in March, powered by shipments of its quad-core MT6589 smartphone solutions, according to industry sources.
The MT6589 has been adopted by over 20 handset makers globally with more than 40 smartphone models now under development, the sources indicated.
Most white-box handset makers in China will utilize MediaTek's MT6589. The solution is a primary choice for makers developing smartphones with a price tag below CNY3,000 (US$483), the sources noted.
Having recorded revenues of NT$14.54 billion in the January-February period, MediaTek should have no problem meeting its guidance of generating revenues of NT$21.9-24 billion in the first quarter of 2013, said the sources.
