Korea-based panel makers' tablet panel shipments exceeded 10 million in February 2013 largely due to LG Display ramping up production of 9.7-inch tablet panels for Apple's iPad products, according to industry observers.
LG's tablet panel shipments took a hard hit in January of the year when Apple adjusted its reserves of its 9.7-inch iPad products. LG's shipments for tablet products dropped to 600,000 units, down 90% on month, giving the company a total of approximately five million tablet panel shipments during January, said the observers.
Samsung Display's overall tablet panel shipments in January fell to around 8.75 million units also as a result of Apple adjusting its reserves as well as to the two companies butting heads over various issues including patent infringements, added the observers.
However, the observers noted that LG's shipments for 9.7-inch tablet panels used in iPad products bumped up to near the two million mark in February of the year. The company as well as Samsung also saw increased tablet panel demand from some of their other major customers, allowing the two companies to exceed 10 million shipments of tablet panels during the month.
Meanwhile, Taiwan-based panel makers' overall shipments of tablet panels reached nine million in January followed by five million units in February. |
