Compal Electronics saw its tablet shipments proportion increase from 4% in 2012 to 10% in January-February 2013, and the proportion is expected to further rise in the second half of 2013, according to supply chain makers.

The increase in January-February tablet shipments was because Compal began to ship 7-inch tablets to Acer, the sources indicated. Compal has been in competition for ODM orders for 10-inch tablets from Acer, the sources noted.

In addition, Compal has landed orders for a 7-inch Kindle Fire from Amazon and orders for tablets from Hewlett-Packard, with Kindle Fire shipments to start in the third quarter of 2013, the sources indicated.

Compal aims to ship 8-10 million tablets in 2013, six times the volume recorded in 2012, the sources said.
