Demand growth in the global PC market continues to slow down but the server market has been maintaining steady growth. International chipmakers have noted that the server market will likely see a wave of equipment replacement in 2013 and Taiwan-based major ODM firms and developers such as Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, and Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) will be important players.
International tier-one chipmakers stated that Taiwan-based hardware firms have been developing the global server market for many years and have strong relationships with international brands. Due to support from Microsoft and the transfer of R&D resources by international brands, after many years of experience, own-brand server products from Taiwan-based firms are expected to be verified by international brands and platform providers in 2013. This may spark a new wave of equipment replacement in the global market, said international chipmakers.
Taiwan-based SSD chip firms revealed that new server products using a hybrid concept combining SSDs and HDDs have shown significant improvements in efficiency and competitiveness. The SSD chip firms expect the new server products adopting the SSD design to become the mainstream in 2013 and Taiwan-based OEM and ODM firms to see increasing market share. |
