Asustek Computer on March 26 unveiled Padfone Infinity, a 5-inch WCDMA smartphone which can be docked into a 10.1-inch tablet, for pre-order in the Taiwan market at retail prices of NT$20,990 (US$704) for a 32GB model, 22,990 for 64GB, and NT$7,000 for the tablet.
The Padfone Infinity features Qualcomm's Snapdragon 600 quad-core 1.7GHz processor, a 5-inch Full HD 441ppi touch screen, Android 4.1, a 2-megapixel front camera and a 13-megapixel rear camera, and weighs 145g (677g plus tablet).
Asustek has cooperated with four telecom carriers, Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Far EasTone Telecommunications and Vibo Telecom, to contract-bundle the Padfone Infinity. In addition, Asustek has cooperated with China Unicom to start bundled sales in China in April.
Asustek is expected to see consolidated revenues for March increase on month 15%, and revenues of NT$100-105 billion for the first quarter, slipping 10-15%, according to market analysts. Asustek has forecast shipments of 4.7 million notebooks, five million motherboards and three million tablets during the first quarter. Since Asustek will launch new notebooks, ultrabooks and motherboards based on Intel's Haswell platform and second-generation Nexus 7 tablets in June 2013, the company's consolidated revenues will peak in the month, market analysts said.
