Launched in March, Sony Mobile's flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z, has sold more than 50,000 units in less than a month in Taiwan. According to Jonathan Lin, general manager of Sony Mobile Taiwan, the firm hopes to rank number two on handset sales while taking a 20% market share.
To increase marketing efforts, Lin noted that Sony Mobile will increase its 2013 marketing budget by 100% while strengthening partnerships with distribution channels.
In addition to the Xperia Z, Sony Mobile plans to introduce two entry-level and mid-range smartphones, the Xperia SP and Xperia L, in the second quarter of 2013. Xperia SP consists of a 4.6-inch touch screen, 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 8-megapixel camera and near field communication (NFC) functions. Xperia L adopts a 4.3-inch touch screen and 1GHz dual-core processor, according to the firm.
Lin added that Sony Mobile will introduce the Xperia Tablet Z in the second quarter. Consumers will have a choice between 3G and Wi-Fi versions.
