Asustek Computer reported March revenues of NT$41.847 billion (US$1.39 billion), representing an on-month growth of 29.49% and an on-year growth of 24.30%. Accumulated revenues in the first quarter of 2013 reached NT$114.275 billion, showing an increase of 16% on year compared to NT$98.551 billion in first-quarter 2012, consistent with previous market forecasts.
Asustek is likely to see second-quarter revenues peak in June because the firm is expected to introduce new notebooks, ultrabooks, and motherboards with Intel's Haswell platform, and second-generation Nexus 7 tablets are expected to begin shipments. The firm is also optimistic about performance in the third quarter.
Asustek's shipments of traditional notebooks in the first quarter were 4.7 million units, down 14.55% on quarter, while Eee PC shipments continued to be low. In addition, shipments of motherboards dropped to five million units in the first quarter, representing a 10% on-quarter decrease. First-quarter 2013 tablet shipments reached three million units.
The firm has set 2013 shipments targets for various product lines. For notebook shipments, the target is 20-25 million units, and for tablets, the target is 12 million units. The shipment target for motherboards is around 22-24 million units while its smartphone shipment target is one million units.
