Quanta Computer has secured orders for own-brand servers for use in cloud computing data centers from Alibaba, the largest China-based e-commerce operator, and Sina, a large China-based web portal, and is talking about such orders with several China-based Internet service providers, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
Facebook, AT&T and China-based Internet service operators Baidu and Tecent have adopted Quanta's servers for their data centers instead of procuring from vendors including Hewlett-Packard, Dell and IBM in order to minimize procurement costs, the sources indicated.
Quanta has strengthened marketing of own-brand servers, aiming at 50% on-year growth in server revenues for 2013. In addition, Quanta expects the proportion of 2013 server revenues for own-brand sales to increase to 85%, and that for OEM shipments to decrease to 15%, the sources said.
In order to promote own-brand servers and switches, Quanta has had nearly 20 staff members attend the 2013 Intel Developer Forum in Beijing, China, the sources noted. |
