Google and Asustek Computer's co-branded second-generation Nexus 7 tablet is expected to enjoy shipments of one million units in May and eight million units in 2013, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
With the tablet's strong contribution, Asustek's tablet shipments will have a chance to reach its goal of 12 million units for 2013. The tablet's manufacturer Quanta Computer will also see its shipments rise for the year.
Google is set to host its Google I/O developer forum from May 15-17 in San Francisco, the US. The second-generation Nexus 7 as well as Google Glass are both expected to be showcased at the event.
The new Nexus 7 features a 7-inch display and a processor from Qualcomm, supporting a resolution higher than that of the first-generation model and 3G connectivity, priced at US$149-199. The machine is expected to be available in June or July. |
