Quanta Computer expects its notebook shipments in the second half of 2013 to increase by 50% from the first half, company vice chairman CC Leung said at an investors conference on May 14.
In response to market analysts' forecast that Quanta will see 2013 notebook shipments shrink on year by 25%, Leung said that Quanta hopes to ship 54 million notebooks in 2013, and if actual shipments fall short of the target, the gap will be below 5%.
The proportion of consumer notebooks that are touch-screen models is likely to rise to 50% at the end of 2013, Leung noted. Quanta has cooperated with 3M to produce touch modules for use in notebooks and performs the bonding of touch modules and display panels at its factory in Shanghai, eastern China, Leung indicated.
Quanta started notebook production at its factory in Chongqing, western China, in 2011 and has been shifting a large portion of total production capacity there, Leung said. The Chongqing factory is expected to account for more than 50% of total notebook shipments in 2013, Leung indicated. In addition to notebooks, Quanta expects to ship 20 million tablets in 2013, with Amazon and Google to be major clients.
Quanta posted consolidated revenues of NT$197.516 billion (US$6.63 billion), net profit of NT$4.642 billion and net EPS of NT$1.16 for the first quarter of 2013. The company's board of directors on May 14 decided to distribute a cash dividend per share of NT$4.00 for 2012, accounting for 66.56% of the corresponding EPS of NT$6.01.
