MediaTek is likely to report higher-than-expected sales for the second quarter of 2013 on a recent ramp-up in demand from China-based smartphone and tablet companies, according to market observers.
MediaTek saw its China-based clients step up their pace of orders recently, thanks to better-than-expected sales of smartphone and tablets during the May 1 holiday season in China, the observers noted. Brisk demand for its new quad-core processors would be another contributing factor to the company's impressive sales result for the second quarter, the observers said.
Second-quarter sales at MediaTek are expected to beat the high-end target of the company's guidance, the observers indicated. Meanwhile, shipments of MediaTek's smartphone solutions in the quarter are set to surpass 50 million units, hitting a quarterly high, the observers said.
In response, MediaTek reiterated the guidance given during the company's most-recent investors meeting.
MediaTek remarked previously that the company would ship 45-50 million IC solutions for smartphones in the second quarter of 2013, with consolidated revenues estimated at NT$30-31.6 billion (US$1-1.1 billion). The forecast sales represent a 25-32% sequential rise. |
