Possibly because Microsoft has lowered licensing rates for Windows 8 for use in tablets, many vendors are developing Windows 8 tablets for launch in the second half of 2013, and thus the operating system is expected to account for 5-8% of all tablets shipped globally in 2013, equivalent to a volume of 10-20 million units, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
Since the PC market will enter the peak season in the third quarter, and many vendors will also start releasing new tablets, the sources estimated that the overall tablet sales ratio for the first and second halves will reach 4:6.
Although Apple is seeing a dropping share in the tablet market in 2013, the company is still expected to achieve shipment growth in the year with a volume of around 80-100 million units. |
