Nanya Technology expects to raise DRAM contract prices by 10% in April 2010, implying the market has shown much strength compared to the same period in previous years, according to the Chinese-language Commercial Times. The DRAM maker hiked the contract prices of its chips by 6-10% in March.
Spot prices for 1Gb DDR2 and same-density DDR3 stopped rising during the afternoon trading session today (March 30), but remained above US$3, according to data gathered by DRAMeXchange. The prices soared beyond the US$3 mark on March 26, the day after a power outage at Samsung Electronics' fabs.
On the demand side, PC OEMs tend to secure in advance sufficient supply of memory chips for the second half of 2010. DRAMeXchange has foreseen the market for DRAM chips may face a shortage in the second half.
