Market observers believe OLED TVs will need until 2016 before the technology drops to similar pricing as LCD TVs.
Currently OLED TVs sized 55-inch are about eight times the price of LCD TVs at around US$10,000 due to low yields and high costs, the observers said, adding that a 55-inch OLED TV panel cost US$2,545 as of first-quarter 2013.
The observers believe that it will take at least until 2016 before OLED TVs drop to about 1.6 times the amount of LCD TVs, and that 55-inch OLED TV panels are expected to drop 36% in cost by the first quarter of 2014.
Contrarily, Ultra HD TVs are now about 1.5 times the price of LCD units, with pricing expected to drop even further in the market by the end of 2013, the observers noted.
