Lenovo will strengthen marketing of touch-screen notebooks in the Taiwan market, aiming to hike the proportion of all notebooks sold in the market from 10% currently to 50% in the first quarter of 2014, according to Lenovo Taiwan.
Currently in the Taiwan market, touch-screen notebooks account for 25% of total notebook sales, higher than the global average of 17% as estimated by IDC, Lenovo Taiwan indicated.
Lenovo on July 16 unveiled several touch-screen notebooks for launch in the Taiwan market, including the convertible Yoga11s at a recommended retail price of NT$31,900 (US$1,063) and convertible ThinkPad Helix priced NT$74,900. Lenovo will launch touch-screen notebooks for sale at below NT$20,000 by the end of 2013, Lenovo Taiwan said.
Lenovo has launched the Idea Tab A1000, a 7-inch tablet, in the Taiwan market and will launch the 7-inch Idea Tab A3000 and 10.1-inch Idea Tab S6000 in the third quarter, as well as 8- and 10-inch Android tablets in the fourth quarter, Lenovo Taiwan noted.
According to Taiwan-based supply chain makers, Acer has been ambitious in promoting touch-screen notebooks, with the proportion of all notebook shipments rising from 15% in the first quarter of 2013 to 25% in the second, and expected to further hike to 50% in 2014 and 70% in 2015. In order to keep down production costs, vendors may adopt less expensive GFF (glass plus two layers of film) touch panels rather than the better quality OGS (one glass solution) options, the sources said. |
