LG confirmed that its flexible high-resolution mobile displays will enter mass production in Q4 2014 (October to December). These displays will allow smartphone designers a whole new dimension in design, letting them bend the display into a concave, bulge it out, to use their ergonomic sense. In a statement released to The Korea Times, LG writes;LG Display has completed the development of our first flexible displays. We've already shipped samples to clients including LG Electronics. LG Display will mass produce flexible displays from the fourth quarter of this year.
If mass-production of these displays starts in Q4, leading smartphone makers may already have access to engineering samples that they could pass on to their design teams; and it wouldn't be far-fetched to imagine that the first smartphones with these panels could roll out around the same time; or at least by Q1 2014 (before April).
