Acer on July 29 announced it was cooperating with Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) to unveil the Acer Liquid S1, a 5.7-inch Android 4.2.2 smartphone, for contract-bundled sale by CHT beginning August 1.
  Acer Liquid S1 features a MediaTek-developed M6589 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM, a 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera, support of Acer Cloud cloud computing applications and has dimensions of 163 (H) x 83(W) x 9.5(D)mm.
  With a contract-free retail price of NT$12,900 (US$430), CHT will offer a subsidized purchase price of NT$4,990 bundled with a 24-month contract at a fixed monthly charge rate of NT$533 and that of NT$0 at NT$1,343.
  Acer aims to sell 20,000 units of the Liquid S1 and 100,000 smartphones of all models in the Taiwan market by the end of 2013, the company indicated. Acer sold 750,000 smartphones in the global market in the first half of 2013 and expects to sell 1.5 million units in the whole year, the company said.
  Acer launched Liquid E2, a 4.5-inch smartphone model, for CHT contract-bundled sale in May 2013 and has sold 25,000 units so far. In addition, Acer is evaluating the feasibility of offering 6-inch and above smartphone models, the company indicated.
  Currently, Acer has three smartphone ODMs, Taiwan-based Qisda and China-based SIMcom and BYD.
