Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update, with its support for high display resolutions, may blur the lines between itself and Windows RT, as both are mobile operating systems for the ARM machine architecture, and choosing either for a 6 thru 10-inch class Windows tablet could be a tough choice for tablet designers, but for those planning on an x86 machine architecture-based Windows tablet, the choice is clear, Windows 8.1.
Already shipping to OEMs this month on, Windows 8.1 could be deployed on a new tablet by Nokia. This tablet could be launched at Nokia's big press-event scheduled for September 26, 2013, in New York.
Every other item on the tablet's specifications sheets are unknown at the moment, although we don't expect it to be a small (sub 8-inch) tablet, unlike the Windows RT based RX-114, which enlists the services of a Snapdragon 800. The idea here is that since x86 processors have generally higher thermal envelope, it's more likely that the Windows 8.1 tablet Nokia has in mind could be 10-inch class, or 12-inch class.
