Memory module makers Silicon Power Computer and Communications, Apacer Electronics, and Panram International have reported reduced profits for the second quarter of 2013, while fellow company Power Quotient International (PQI) saw its performance plunge into negative territory from positive during the same period.
Silicon Power posted net profits of NT$56 million (US$1.9 million), or NT$0.93 per share, in the second quarter, slightly lower than the prior quarter's levels. Net profits for the first half of 2013 came to NT$136 million, rising 35.2% from a year ago. Earnings for the six-month period translated into a net EPS of NT$2.26.
Silicon Power attributed the profit shrink to a slowdown in chip price growth. Amid a chip price fall, Silicon Power indicated its July sales decreased 8.7% sequentially to NT$622 million.
Silicon Power's cumulative 2013 revenues through July totaled NT$4.1 billion, up 7.9% on year.
Apacer's second-quarter profits also registered a slight sequential decrease. The firm generated net profits of NT$127 million, or NT$0.97 per share, in the second quarter. Net profits for the first half of 2013 amounted to NT$266 million, or NT$2.06 per share.
Panram's net profits declined to NT$44 million in the second quarter from NT$113 million in the first. Net profits for the first half of 2013 arrived at NT$157 million, or NT$2.70 per share.
