China-based smartphone vendor Xiaomi Technology plans to launch a new smartphone built with a MediaTek 8-core MT-6592 processor at the end of 2013, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.
The 8-core model will come after Xiaomi released recently its CNY799 (US$130) Hongmi (Red Rice) smartphone, which is powered by a MediaTek quad-core MT6589T CPU, the paper noted.
MediaTek's 8-core CPUs have also entered the design-in process of a number of other China-based smartphone vendors, including Lenovo, Oppo Mobile, Gionee, and Vivo, added the paper.
Meanwhile, according to other media reports in China, Xiaomi is expected to release its third-generation Xiaomi smartphone (Mi-3) as well as much speculated Xiami TVs at a press event scheduled on September 5.
Initial Xiaomi TVs will come with 47- and 55-inch displays, priced at CNY4,999 and CNY5.999, respectively, according to the reports. |
