Taiwan-based smartphone ODMs Arima Communications and Compal Communications have landed greater-than-expected orders for large-size entry-level models thanks to their aggressive marketing strategies, according to industry sources.
Instead of waiting for orders from clients, Taiwan-based ODMs are actively developing new models with designated chipset platforms and functions for various price segments, and then pushing sales of these models to target clients, revealed the sources.
These models stand a good chance of winning orders from target clients as they fit different market demand, while shorting time to market to just 3-6 months, said the sources.
The aggressive approach has helped Arima win orders for the Xperia C from Sony Mobile Communications. Arima designed the Xperia C with a MediaTek quad-core CPU and a 5-inch display for the entry-level segment.
Development of the 4.7-inch Lumia 625 by Compal for Nokia fills a gap in the vendor's product mix and has resulted in stronger than expected sales for Nokia, commented the sources.
