Component makers in the Nexus 7 supply chain are worried they may see a large decrease in orders from Google and Asustek Computer in the fourth quarter of 2013 due to lower-than-expected sales during the third quarter, according to industry sources.
The makers have seen steady shipments for the device in the third quarter due to the device's recent release, but expect orders to decrease sequentially as the Nexus 7 faces over competition in the tablet market, the sources said.
The sources pointed out that the competition is stemming not only from increased vendors in the tablet market but also because most of the vendors receive components from the same suppliers, making it easy for them to release similar products as their competitors.
Meanwhile, market observers said consumers have recently been complaining about the device's GPS capabilities as well as its touch screen sensitivity, which may also be linked to expected shipment declines for the device in the fourth quarter.
