Compal Electronics has landed orders for 15-inch notebooks to be shipped in 2014 from Acer while fellow ODM Quanta Computer has obtained orders for 14- and 17-inch notebooks and an ultrabook. Compal and Quanta together are estimated to account for 90% of Acer's notebook shipments in 2014, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
15-inch is the most popular notebook size in Europe, the most important notebook market for Acer, while 14-inch notebooks are relatively popular in Asia, the sources indicated.
Compal has landed orders from Dell for 90% of business-use notebooks and 50% of consumer notebooks to be shipped in 2014, the sources added. In addition, Compal will produce 30% of notebooks to be launched in 2014 by Lenovo, and LCFC (Hefei) Electronics Technology, a joint venture maker between Compal and Lenovo, will account for 60%, the sources noted.
Compal shipped 28.1 million notebooks and tablets in January-August 2013, the sources indicated. Compal aims to ship 52 million units of various devices in 2013, growing 17.9% on year and consisting of 36.4 million notebooks, 10.4 million tablets and 5.2 million AIO (All-in-One) PCs and LCD TVs, the sources said. |
