China-based vendor Huawei Device on September 16 unveiled two mid-range smartphone models, Ascend G700 and Ascend G610, for launch in the Taiwan market in late September, according to Huawei's exclusive Taiwan sales agent XunWei Tech.
While Ascend G700 and Ascend G610 will be for sale at contract-free retail prices of NT$9,900 (US$330) and NT$6,900 respectively, the former will be available for contract-bundled sale by Chunghwa Telecom and the later by Far EasTone Telecommunications, XunWei indicated.
Entering the Taiwan smartphone market two to three years ago, Huawei plans to launch 12 models in 2013 and has so far launched 10, much more than the five models launched in 2012, XunWei said. Sales of Ascend P6, a flagship smartphone model launched in June 2013, have reached nearly 10,000 units, XunWei noted.
Huawei is confident of attaining target shipments of 200,000 smartphones for a Taiwan market share of 2-3% in 2013, and aims to increase shipments to 400,000 units for a market share of 5% in 2014, XunWei pointed out. In line with the 2014 shipment goal, Huawei will hike 2014 marketing budget, including a plan to establish its first flagship retail store in Taiwan, XunWei indicated.
