Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear at a press event in India. Since a majority of smartphone and related gadget sales in India are contract-free, one could read a lot into the pricing of Galaxy Gear in the country. The company also touched upon Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) availability.
To begin with, Galaxy Note 3 is priced at 49,900 Indian Rupees (roughly $790.5), for the 32 GB variant. India gets the HSPA+ variant, since LTE networks are still under planning. Samsung makes up for the lack of LTE support on the HSPA+ variant with its premium Exynos Octa 5420 SoC, which combines four ARM Cortex-A15 cores at 1.90 GHz, with four Cortex-A7 cores a 1.30 GHz. With its HMP software update, the chip could let the device use all eight of its cores simultaneously. Exynos-based Galaxy Note 3 is also said to pack the better-quality Wolfson audio DAC, than the Qualcomm-made one on the LTE variant, which is driven by Snapdragon 800.
Galaxy Gear is priced at 22,990 Indian Rupees (roughly $363), which is close to the $299 pricing doing rounds in the western markets. Samsung is marketing the Galaxy Gear as the "must-have Diwali gift." Both the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear should be available immediately, and in all their color trims, along with genuine accessories (window cover).
Samsung also touched upon availability of Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition). The tablet should be available from some time in October, the company is still finalizing its pricing.
