ProMOS Technologies is set to move Elpida Memory's 63nm stack process to mass production in the third quarter of 2010, according to the company.ProMOS said it kicked off trial runs on 63nm for Elpida's 2Gb DDR3 chips in March. After the ramp-up, ProMOS's monthly output for Elpida's DDR3 chips will be scaled up to 35,000 wafer starts a month at the end of 2010.ProMOS also revealed half of its capacity for Elpida will be for PC applications, and the remainder for the mobile and consumer electronics segments. In addition to commodity DRAM, ProMOS will also provide Elpida with foundry services for mobile DRAM and specialty DRAM chips. In addition, ProMOS said it expects to start producing chips on Elpida's 45nm or even 3Xnm in the second half of 2011.ProMOS did not disclose when it will start taking delivery of immersion scanner equipment, a key tool for ramping production on sub-50nm processes. |
