TV vendors at large are decreasing their LCD TV shipments for the second half of 2013 and are also lowering their year-end sales targets for the year.
The vendors include Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics in addition to major TV vendors in China such as Haier and Skyworth and Japan-based Sony, Sharp, Panasonic Toshiba.
The main reason for the shipment adjustment is the lacking demand in China since mid-2013 when the China government discontinued LCD TV purchase subsidies.
Despite the lowered shipment targets in 2013, Samsung expects to see its LCD TV shipments reach 42.5 million units, up 4.5% on year, while LG aims to ship 29.6 million, up 11% on year. The top-six TV vendors in China meanwhile expect their combined global shipments to reach 50 million units.
Additionally, Sony aims to ship 12.5 million units; Toshiba 9.5 million; Sharp 7.6 million and Panasonic 6.2 million, down 40%.
Global TV shipments rose 3.2% on year in the first half of 2013 but are expected to decline 2.1% on year during the second half. Total shipments of LCD TVs in 2013 are expected to reach 204 million units, up 0.2% on year.
Rumors in the market previously said the China government was looking to issue a new wave of subsidies in the second half but recent market buzz indicates nothing will take place until the second half of 2014. |
