The first proof of a working MediaTek MT6592 Octa-core SoC came in today in the form of an average quality photo. Thankfully, that didn't prove to be a hindrance to finding out about the upcoming SoC, based on the ARM Cortex A7 architecture, and built to fight Qualcomm and their top dog Snapdragon 800 chipset.
Around two months ago, MediaTek had revealed a performance figure above 30,000 (AnTuTu) for their octa-core SoC, which far less than the highest end quad-core solutions found in handsets now. The final SoC will reportedly pack ARMv7 Cortex A7 cores with a maximum core clock of 2 GHz (per core).
Expect to see Chinese products based on the new SoC before the end of this year, or perhaps early in 2014. |
