LCD TV shipments in Taiwan are expected to decline 10-15% in 2013, according to supply chain sources.
The sources said factors such as LCD TV purchase subsidies coming to an end were a factor for the decline coupled with overall weak consumer demand.
Sales of LCD TVs sized above 50-inch have been higher compared to 2012 but 32-, 42- and 50-inch are still the most popular sizes.
TV vendors, however, hope they can make up for decreased shipments through sales of large-size TVs and high-end products such as Ultra HD units.
The decline in TV shipments in Taiwan coupled with weak TV demand globally has affected supply chain companies such as TPV Technology, which reported losses in both its LCD TV and LCD monitor businesses, the sources added.
TV demand in Taiwan could pick up in November and December when consumers are likely to purchase new units before the Lunar New Year holiday period, the sources noted.
