DRAM maker ProMOS Technologies stands a good chance of returning to profitability in the second quarter of 2010, according to company chairman ML Chen speaking at a recent press event.
ProMOS has wrapped up a deal to sell its manufacturing site located at the Hsinchu Science Park (HSP) to NOR flash and ROM maker Macronix International, which is looking to expand its capacity. PSC said it would recognize an investment gain of about NT$2.6 billion (US$83 million) accordingly.
Chen noted that ProMOS will inject all of its resources into its facility at the Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP), where it runs 12-inch lines. ProMOS is set to move Elpida Memory's 63nm process to mass production for DDR3 memory in August, and will also produce mobile RAM based on the node, Chen indicated.
In addition to DDR3 chips, ProMOS will also produce Elpida's 512Mb and below mobile RAM chips using 63nm, according to Chen. Elpida signed an outsourcing deal with ProMOS in November 2009.
ProMOS closed at NT$2.85 on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) on April 16, down NT$0.14.
ProMOS swung to net losses in the second quarter of 2007, and has remained unprofitable since. The company is scheduled to unveil its first-quarter 2010 financial results at an investors conference on April 30. |
