Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) saw September sales of its core IC ATM (assembly test and material) business grow 4.1% on month, while fellow firm Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) reported a flat sequential increase.
ASE's IC ATM operations posted revenues of NT$13.07 billion (US$439 million) in September. Revenues amounted to NT$37.81 billion in the third quarter of 2013, rising 4.2% sequentially and 11.6% from a year earlier.
ASE's consolidated revenues, which consist of sales generated by EMS subsidiary Universal Scientific Industrial (USI), increased by a larger 8.3% sequentially in September 2013. Consolidated revenues for the third quarter came to NT$56.75 billion, representing growth of 11.8% on quarter.
Previous reports quoted market watchers as saying that ASE has enjoyed growing shipments for system-in-package (SiP) solutions used for Wi-Fi modules and fingerprint sensors used in mobile devices, which will buoy sales of its EMS-related business through the fourth quarter.
SPIL generated consolidated revenues of NT$6.45 billion in September 2013, down 0.9% on month but up about 14% on year. The firm collected NT$19.09 billion in third-quarter consolidated revenues, up 8.5% on quarter and 13.3% on year.
SPIL chairman Bough Lin previously commented that demand for communications ICs would be strong in the second half of 2013 on the back of brisk sales of smartphones and other mobile communication devices. Demand for flip-chip (FC) and bumping packaging will drive revenue growth for the company during the period.
SPIL is scheduled to hold its quarterly investors meeting on October 30 to discuss its third-quarter performance and business outlook. |
