Rexchip Electronics, a 64%-held subsidiary of Japan's Elpida Memory, began trading on Taiwan's Emerging Stock Board (ESB) today (April 20).
Rexchip was founded in 2006 as a DRAM-manufacturing joint venture between Elpida and Powerchip Semiconductor Corporation (PSC). In March 2009, Elpida raised its holdings in Rexchip to more than 50%, becoming the largest shareholder of the JV.
Rexchip reportedly supplies around 70% of its total output to Elpida, and the remainder to PSC. The JV currently runs a 12-inch fab at the Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP), with a monthly capacity of around 80,000 wafers. |
