More top-tier smartphone brands, including Sony Mobile Communications and LG Electronics, have launched low-cost models powered by MediaTek's solutions in order to compete effectively with China-based brands in China and other markets, according to industry sources.
Sony Mobile's Xperia C, which is manufactured by Arima Communications, is the vendor's first model powered by a MediaTek quad-core processor. Sony Mobile has launched the model in China and other markets in Asia, resulting in brisk sales, the sources noted.
LG has adopted MediaTek's 1GHz dual-core MT6577CPU for its 5.5-inch G Pro Lite smartphone, which also supports dual-SIM. LG also plans to market the large-size model in Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Russia, indicated the sources.
Samsung Electronics is reportedly conducting a feasibility study for adopting MediaTek's forthcoming 8-core CPU, the MT6592, the sources revealed. MediaTek is scheduled to release the 8-core chip soon. |
