At its big Fall-2013 event, Apple badgered about how successfully it sold close to 9 million iPhone 5S/5C smartphones so far, pushing Samsung to post a public reality check on sales figures of ifs Galaxy S4 flagship. It turns out that the 5-incher is doing fairly well.
Put in numbers, Samsung sold more than 40 million units of the Galaxy S4, since its April 2013 launch. Interestingly, sales of the Galaxy S4 nosedived after the first couple of months of its launch. The handset sold a cool 10 million units in its first month in the market (April-May), when Samsung boldly announced that it expected to sell no less than a 100 million units.
Sales of the Galaxy S4 slumped in the wake of increased competition from the likes of the HTC One. The second half of 2013 saw most smartphone makers refresh their flagship smartphone lineup, with the likes of the iPhone 5S, Xperia Z1, and LG G2 being launched. It remains to be seen how much much Samsung can milk the Galaxy S4 brand.
