LG Display (LGD) has started production of 49-, 55-, 65- and 84-inch Ultra HD TV panels, with a goal of shipping 1.8-2.0 million units for a global market share of 30% in 2014, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
LGD currently ships 10,000-15,000 55-inch and 5,000 65-inch Ultra HD TV panels to LG Electronics, Japan- and China-based LCD TV vendors per month, and 3,000-5,000 84-inch units to North America-based vendor Vizio, the sources indicated.
LGD plans to offer WCG (wide color gamut) Ultra HD TV panels and 49-inch models in first-quarter 2014, the sources said.
Taiwan-based AU Optronics (AUO) and Innolux began production of Ultra HD TV panels earlier than LGD, the sources noted. AUO has shipped 55- and 65-inch Ultra HD TV panels to Sony and 42- and 50-inch models to China- and other Japan-based TV vendors. Innolux has focused on low-cost Ultra HD TV panels mainly for China-based TV vendors, and it aims to ship 5-8 million Ultra HD TV panels in 2014, the sources noted.
According to Digitimes Research, global Ultra HD TV panel shipments are estimated at 2.5 million units in 2013 and 6.3 million units in 2014. |
