Above 10-megapixel will become the mainstream resolution level for lens modules used in smartphones and tablets in 2014, CEO Lin En-ping for Taiwan-based lens module maker Largan Precision said at an October 31 investors conference.
  Almost all clients have adopted or will adopt above 10-megapixel lens modules for smartphones or tablets to be launched in 2014, Lin indicated.
  Of lens modules shipped in the third quarter of 2013, 13-megapixel and above models accounted for 10-20%, 8-megapixel models 30-40%, 5-megapixel models 20-30% and 1.3-megapixel and below models 20-30%, Lin said.
  Among applications, smartphones took up 80-85% of third-quarter 2013 consolidated revenues, tablets, notebooks and desktops together 10-15%, digital cameras 2% and MFPs (multi-function peripheral) 1%.
