Finland-based Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) aims to become the largest supplier of LTE equipment for 4G mobile telecom carriers in Taiwan, said NSN Greater China president Markus Borchert.
95 mobile telecom carriers have adopted NSN LTE equipment, including base stations, core networks and IMS (IP multimedia subsystems), around the world, Borchert indicated. Among LTE equipment suppliers, NSN is globally the second largest, and the largest in Asia, Borchert said.
As Taiwan finished auctioning 12 frequency band units available for operating 4G services recently, winners are expected to procure LTE equipment over the next two years, NSN general manager for Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau Mike Wang said. Since LTE equipment is considerably technologically mature, it will take ix month to a year to establish an LTE network depending on density of base station deployment and if there are existing networks, Wang said. With a technical staff of more than 500 in Taiwan, NSN is able to help clients set up LTE networks to begin 4G operations in the second half of 2014, Wang indicated. |
