Quanta Computer in April 2013 set a goal of shipping 20 million tablets in 2013 but has found it will not be able to reach the goal because sales performance of clients has been short of expectations due to price competition from white-box vendors, company vice chairman CC Leung said at an investors conference on November 14.
Quanta estimated its tablet shipments in 2013 at 15 million units. According to Taiwan-based supply chain makers, Quanta's shipments of Google's second-generation Nexus 7 have been far short of original estimates, which is the main reason behind Quanta missing its target.
However, Quanta will be able to reach its 2013 target shipments of 44 million notebooks, Leung said. Currently, notebooks account for 65% of total revenues and servers, storage equipment and other devices used in cloud computing applications for 15%, Leung indicated.
