Handset-use lens module makerLargan Precision has filed a lawsuit with a US local court in the Southern District of California accusing Samsung Electronics of infringing six of its US-registered patents regarding Galaxy Note II's cameras.
Largan said it is also suing Samsung's US-based subsidiaries, Samsung Electronics America and Samsung Telecommunications America LLC.
The six patents are: US Patent No. 7 262 925 for image lens array; No. 7 394 602 for optical system for capturing images; No. 7 898 747 for thin-type optical lens system for capturing images; No. 8 154 807 for image lens assembly; No. 8 284 291 for optical lens assembly; and No. 8 508 860 for optical lens system.
According to industry sources, the lawsuit comes as a surprise, as the Taiwan-based Largan became for the first time a supplier of lens modules for use in Samsung smartphones in second-quarter 2013.
