Amazon's Kindle lineup owes its success to the humble, yet category-defining e-book readers that use e-ink displays. The company plans to renew its Kindle Paperwhite lineup in early Q2, 2014, according to a TechCrunch report.
The next-generation Kindle Paperwhite, codenamed "Ice Wine," will feature a higher-resolution e-ink display with 300 ppi or more, of pixel density, making it competitive with the high-resolution e-ink readers from the likes of Kobo.
The current-generation Kindle Paperwhite features a 212 ppi display, in comparison to Kobo's Aura HD, which ships with a higher-resolution 265 ppi screen. Interestingly, both Amazon and Kobo source their displays from the same OEM, E Ink. Pixel density is a big deal with e-book readers, as sharper screens make classic Serf-laden fonts look better.
