Following the steps of Acer and Hewlett-Packard (HP), Asustek Computer and Toshiba both have also decided to introduce Chromebooks with Intel's Haswell processors in 2014, according to industry sources.
Acer will pioneer all brand vendors to launch its 11.6-inch Chromebook C720P, priced at US$299, in December 2013, the sources indicated.
Asustek will launch Chromebooks in 2014 with the first wave of models to come in 11.6- and 13.3-inch sizes, company CEO Jerry Shen revealed recently. Prices of Asustek's Chromebooks are likely to range US$199-329, indicated the sources.
Toshiba is expected to release its Chromebooks soon, noted the sources, adding that the Japan-based vendor is outsourcing production to Inventec.
Shipments of Chromebooks, including the Chromebook Pixel launched by Google, account for less than 5% of total global notebook shipments currently, the sources estimated. |
