Honestly, this one really caught us off guard. While a LG G Pad based Nexus or GPE device was in the cards, nobody expected to see the Sony Xperia Z Ultra be the first Google Play Edition device from the Japanese company. Oh well, at least now Google has a phablet on offer.
Featuring a behemoth 6.44-inch 1080p Triluminos display, the Xperia Z Ultra caters to those who can't pick between a 5.5-inch phablet and a 7-inch tablet as their primary device. To deal with such people, Sony created a stop-gap product, and boy did it turn out beautifully. Also, the Z Ultra is one of the very first Snapdragon 800 powered devices, introduced earlier this year. The GPE handset sports seven LTE bands, which should work with AT&T and T-Mobile in the US.
The giant is now available for $650.
