Compal Electronics reportedly has landed orders for Hewlett-Packard's (HP) enterprise notebooks and will start shipments in June 2014, according to sources from the upstream supply chain. Compal declined to comment about its orders.
With the new orders, Compal's overall notebook shipments in 2014 are expected to rise higher, helping the top-two ODMs – Quanta Computer and Compal – to stay firmly at their positions, the sources noted.
Compared to the top-two, Wistron, Inventec and Pegatron Technology have all seen their orders for 2014 shrink on year, the sources said.
Since Microsoft is set to stop providing support for Windows XP in April 2014, the sources said enterprise notebook shipments are expected to benefit from a replacement trend in 2014.
Currently, Compal is the major ODM of Dell's enterprise notebooks, supplying 80-90% of the vendor's total volume. For 2014, Compal has also landed consumer models from Toshiba as well as Lenovo, Dell and Acer.
Compal president Ray Chen previously estimated that the company's notebook shipments will reach 40 million units in 2014, up 5.2% from 38 million in 2013 and will benefit mainly from an enterprise notebook replacement trend. |
