Global TV panel shipments peaked in November and are expected to fall in December and through January and February 2014 based panel makers' shipment plans, according to NPD DisplaySearch.
Based on panel makers' shipment plans, total TV panel shipments in January and February 2014 will drop on month by 21% and 5%. However, as major China-based LCD TV vendors have not made significant panel procurements to replenish inventories, and possible high inventory levels in the fourth quarter of 2013 will drive them to decrease procurement in the first quarter of 2014, TV panel makers are likely to downward adjust first-quarter 2014 shipment plans.
China-based LCD TV vendors' panel procurement in October grew on month by 3% and Innolux was the largest supplier, followed by China Star Optoelectronics Technology (CSOT), LG Display, BOE Technology, AU Optronics and Samsung Display. LCD TV vendor TCL accounted for 41% of affiliated CSOT's October shipments.
Samsung Display has aggressively planned to tap the China market, aiming at 17% of TV panel shipments in 2014 to China-based vendors. |
