Taiwan-based Innolux has begun production of 39.5-inch LCD TV panels, a new panel size for use in 40-inch TVs with China-based vendors being target clients, and aims to ship 500,000-700,000 units a month in 2014, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
For the 39.5-inch TV panels, Innolux aims to compete for orders from China-based vendors with LG Display's 42-inch panels and Samsung Display's and Sharp's 40-inch models, the sources pointed out.
In addition, Innolux will focus on Ultra HD TV panels in 2014, with 50 inches to be the mainstream size, the sources indicated. Innolux currently ships 300,000-400,000 50-inch Ultra HD TV panels a month, accounting for nearly 50% of total 50-inch TV panel shipments. Among panel makers, only Innolux has offered 58-inch Ultra HD TV panels and will continue the production in 2014, the sources noted. For 2014 business operation, Innolux has developed 75-inch Ultra HD TV panels for first-tier vendors and cooperated with Sony to develop curved-surface TV panels, the sources pointed out.
As China-based panel makers have been bringing 8.5G production capacities into operation and the economy cutting sizes of TV panels for 8.5G lines are 32, 55, 46, 48 and 49 inches, Taiwan-based panel makers have to keep flexible in other cutting sizes to maintain competitiveness, the sources analyzed.
There will be about two million Ultra HD TV panels shipped globally in 2013 and the shipments are expected to exceed 10 million units in 2014, the sources indicated. |
