Shipments of 4G LTE smartphones are expected to account for over 30% of Taiwan-based handset ODMs' total shipments in 2014 as China-based handset vendors and international players including Sony Mobile Communications, Nokia and HTC are releasing more orders for entry-level LTE-enabled models to ODMs, according industry sources.
Taiwan-based ODMs, including Foxconn/FIH Mobile, Arima Communications, Compal Communications and Inventec Appliances have landed orders from the vendors, with the bulk of models targeting the sub-US$200 segment, the sources noted.
China-based smartphone vendors including Huawei, ZTE, Lenovo and Xiaomi Technology are releasing orders for entry-level 4G models with prices tagged around CNY1,000 (US$165), the source added.
Although Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics and Motorola Mobility are also stepping up their development of 4G smartphones, Taiwan-based handset ODMs are unlikely to receive a significant portion of 4G orders from these three suppliers, revealed the sources.
