A 5-inch on-cell touch solution jointly developed by Taiwan-based IC design house FocalTech Systems and TFT-LCD panel maker Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) has been adopted by China-based smartphone vendor Coolpad for its two models, 8198T and 7295, according to FocalTech and CPT.

　　Development of on-cell touch solutions entails close cooperation between touch controller IC design houses and panel makers, and FocalTech has developed 1.5- to 14.1-inch on-cell touch solutions, the company indicated.

　　CPT expects to ship more than one million on-cell touch panels in the fourth quarter of 2013, the company said.

　　According to industry sources, smartphone vendors are expected to increasingly adopt on-cell touch solutions in the first half of 2014 and touch module makers, in order to compete with panel makers' on-cell touch panels, will have to lower quotes and provide total solutions in 2014.
