Foxconn Electronics' (Hon Hai Precision Industry's) legal battles against Taiwan-based connector maker Lotes over the infringement of Foxconn's USB 3.0 patents are starting to favor Foxconn with victories in courts in both the US and China.
Although the firms are still allowed an appeal, market watchers are pessimistic about the chances of a turnabout.
Since Lotes is a major USB 3.0 product supplier, if it loses the lawsuits, the USB 3.0 industry may see a significant reshuffling in terms of vendor rankings.
In 2013, over 20% of Lotes' revenues will be contributed by its connector business, with USB 3.0 being the largest product segment.
